Dehradun: Uttarkashi is witnessing a tense atmosphere following an incident during a rally organized by the United Sanatan Dharma Rakshak Sangh yesterday. Several Rakshak and policemen were injured when they collided with each other.
Superintendent of Police Amit Srivastava said the administration has enforced Section 163 in the town, restricting gatherings of more than 5 people to maintain law and order.
He urged residents to support the efforts to uphold peace, stressing that any attempts to disrupt it will not be tolerated.
The rally, which turned violent, left 8 policemen injured, and SP Srivastava confirmed that action will be taken against those involved in the rioting.
He the protestors had permission to stage protest but they tried to enter the route for which they had no permission. The police tried to resist the move in which several people were injured.
He termed certain social media platforms showing that stones were pelted by rhe different community group on the protestors as Fake News.
“We will ensure strict action against those violating the law. Maintaining peace is our top priority,” he stated.
To restore calm, police conducted a flag march through the town today, signaling their resolve to keep the situation under control.
Authorities have also deployed additional police forces in sensitive areas to prevent further escalation.
The aftermath of the incident has left the town’s residents and business owners on edge, with many opting to stay indoors.
Local shops and marketplaces saw reduced foot traffic as people hurried to return home, wary of further unrest. Police have urged the public to avoid spreading rumors and assured them that every measure is being taken to maintain peace and safety in Uttarkashi.
