KULLU: BJP has dumped senior BJP leader Maheshwar Singh and allotted the party ticket to novice Narotam Thakur from Kullu sadar on the last day of nomination. Singh has filed his nomination as an independent.
According to sources, BJP cancelled his ticket as Maheshwar Singh has failed to persuade his son Hiteshwar Singh to contest election from Banjar as an independent against BJP nominee Surendra Shourie.
Narotam Thakur filed his nomination today. Maheshwar Singh termed BJP decision as in injustice to people of Kullu Sadar.
Interestingly, Adityavikram Singh, who had sought Congress ticket from Banjar, who is the son of former Congress leader from Kullu, late Karan Singh, joined BJP in the presence of Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur last week.
Congress has given ticket to Khimi Ram, former state BJP president from Banjar.
On the other hand, Maheshwar Singh elder son Hiteshwar had sought BJP ticket from Banjar, but the party has fielded Shourie. He has filed his nomination as an Independent.
Jai Ram Thakur hold meeting with Maheshwar and his son last week. But all pleas to persuade Hiteshwar failed.
The BJP dumped Maheshwar and allotted ticket to Narotam Thakur, a teacher who had resigned from the job and sought BJP ticket and enjoys support of Jai Ram Thakur.
Because of the swift development in Kullu, Congress candidate Sundar Thakur has enjoys “an edge” because of internal strife in Kullu sadar BJP.
