SHIMLA: Education Minister Rohit Thakur launched a scathing counterattack on Opposition Leader Jai Ram Thakur's recent comments about Sardar Patel University (SPU) in Mandi.
In a rebuttal issued here today Rohit Thakur accused the Leader of Opposition of playing politics with the education of thousands of students.
He pointed out that the previous BJP government had hastily opened SPU without proper infrastructure, leaving students in dire straits. The university lacked basic facilities and failed to conduct examinations.
Highlighting the grim situation at SPU, Rohit Thakur revealed that affiliated colleges had sought integration with Himachal Pradesh University, a move aimed at providing better educational facilities for students.
Himachal Pradesh University boasts over 500 teaching staff and ample non-teaching support.
In a sharp rebuttal, Minister Thakur cleared that the government had no plans to close SPU. Instead, he accused Jai Ram Thakur of exploiting regional sentiments for political gain, emphasizing that the welfare of students should have been the top priority.
The Education Minister condemned the Opposition Leader's alleged history of political deceit and called out the attempt to divert public attention from pressing issues.
He underscored that the people of Himachal Pradesh were well aware of such tactics within the BJP's politics.
