SHIMLA, MARCH 15: Emboldened by the repeat of BJP governments in four states, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur today set a Hindutva tone ahead of the coming state assembly elections, announcing that the screening of the Kashmir Files, a film that has created a political storm in the country, would be tax-free in the state.
The film directed by Vivek Agnihotri captures the plight of Kashmiri Hindus read Pandits, who were forced to flee the militancy-hit Kashmir valley in the 1990s. The film portrayed a poignant drama of violence, torture and exodus of the Kashmiri pandits from their homeland in the 1990s.
Jai Ram Thakur set the Hindutva tone hot on the heels of the notification of the constitution of the Samanya Varg Aayog that guarantees reservation for the jobs for the general category to woo the upper caste Hindus of Himachal projecting BJP as their real benefactor in the state.
Soon after the victories of BJP in Uttarakhand, UP, Manipur and Goa, the party has changed its tone broadcasting its frank Hindutva among people of Himachal Pradesh.
Chief Minister’s announcement came as a matter of studied political strategy to present itself as real champion of the Hindus in the state, which has no significant population of the Muslims, who can make an electoral gains or loss for the party.
Jai Ram Thakur said that the government has exempted the GST on the Kashmir Files film so that the common can see the film and get an idea how the Kashmiri Pandits were forced to flee the Kashmir valley .
