He has directed Lt Governor Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha and union minister Dr Jitender Singh to take stock of the situation in Katra and enroute to the shrine and ensure safety of the pilgrims.
Lt General UT, Jammu and Kashmir Manoji Sinha has ordered inquiry headed by the principal secretary home, ADGP Jammu and DC Jammu into the stampede that took place in the Shrine Bhawan at Katra.
Manjoj Sinha said exgratia relief of Rs 10 lakh will be given to the victims killed and Rs 2 lakh to those injured in the incident. Shrine board will bear the cost of the treatment of the injured patients, he said.
Team led by Jitender Prasad, who was accompanied by DGP Jammu and Kashmir visited the spot, got inputs from the pilgrims and expressed the need to do some corrective measures to prevent recurrence of such incident in the future.
Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur has also expressed grief over the stampede incident at Mata Vaishno Devi.
Expressing his sympathies with the bereaved families, Chief Minister prayed the Almighty to give peace to the departed soul and strength to the affected families to bear this irreparable loss. He also wished speedy recovery to the injured
