APG Anti-Drug Awareness Drive

DGP Tiwari Calls Students ‘Police Without Uniform’

Shimla, September 29 – APG Shimla University on Monday hosted a special awareness programme titled “Before You Fall, Stand Tall” to sensitise students about the rising threat of drug abuse and to push them towards building a drug-free society.

Director General of Police (DGP) Himachal Pradesh, Ashok Tiwari, IPS, who was the chief guest, gave an  address highlighting the alarming increase in drug consumption among youth.

Urging students to treat themselves as “police without uniform”, he called on them to stay vigilant, report suspicious activities, and take the lead in awareness campaigns.

“Students are not only responsible for protecting themselves but also for spreading awareness among their peers. Together with police and community support, you can become the strongest force against drugs,” Tiwari said.

The event also saw participation from SP (Welfare) Pankaj Sharma, DySP PHQ Geetanjali Thakur, Constable Aanandni, and Lady Constable Vanita, who shared field experiences, police initiatives, and success stories of young lives saved through timely intervention.

They stressed the need to break the stigma around rehabilitation and encouraged students to seek or guide others towards help.

A lively Q&A session followed, where students asked about early signs of addiction, rehabilitation centres, legal consequences, and opportunities to volunteer in anti-drug campaigns. DGP Tiwari assured students of the police’s full support, adding, “Rehabilitation is about recovery, not punishment.”

The programme concluded with Registrar R.L. Sharma thanking the officials and reiterating the university’s commitment to creating a safe, drug-free environment.

Dr. Mahinder Kaur moderated the event, which was attended by faculty, dignitaries, and students from across departments.

The session turned into more than just an awareness drive—it became a platform for youth and law enforcement to come together against a shared social concern.
