SHIMLA: Governor Kavinder Gupta said Atmanirbhar Bharat should mean strengthening India’s own capabilities without isolating the country from global knowledge, science, technology, trade and cooperation. He called for a balance between tradition and modernity, technology and ethics, prosperity and sensitivity.
The seminar prominently brought Integral Humanism, Antyodaya, Indian traditions and national confidence into the discussion, giving the two-day academic exercise a distinct ideological and civilisational framing.
That raises a larger question about the changing intellectual direction of IIAS. The seminar appeared less focused on debating whether the Atmanirbhar Bharat framework should be accepted and more on examining how it can be connected with India’s civilisational thought and the Viksit Bharat-2047 vision.
Its academic significance will ultimately depend on whether this discourse expands into sustained research and open debate, including critical examination of the economic, social, technological and institutional dimensions of the development model.
