HC Relief for BJP MP Harsh Mahajan in Rajya Sabha Election Petition
Shimla:
Senior BJP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Harsh Mahajan secured big relief in an ongoing election petition case, as the court dismissed an application filed by Abhishek Manu Singhvi challenging the need for witnesses and cross-examination.
According to Mahajan’s counsel, Vikrant Thakur, the court upheld the validity of the witness list submitted by the BJP leader, terming it appropriate and in line with due legal procedure.
The bench rejected Singhvi’s objections, clearing the way for witness examination in the matter.
The BJP described the order as a crucial legal win, asserting that it reinforces transparency in the electoral process and strengthens the integrity of judicial proceedings.
Thakur emphasized that the court has made it clear that evidence and witness testimony cannot be sidelined in election-related disputes.
Reacting to the development, Mahajan said attempts to suppress the truth would not succeed. He alleged that senior Congress leaders were trying to evade facts even in court, but the judiciary has ensured that the truth will come out through due process.
The case pertains to a petition linked to the Rajya Sabha election, where proceedings are continuing with a focus on evidentiary scrutiny and witness examination.
