Deja Vu for CJI Surya Kant. He Lays Foundation of Rs 152 Crore New Judicial Complex in Temple town here..
Mandi: The Chief Justice of India Justice Surya Kant on Sunday laid the foundation stone of a new Judicial Court Complex in Mandi, to be built at an estimated cost of about ₹152 crore, marking a major step toward strengthening judicial infrastructure in the district.
The ceremony was attended by Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and Justice Gurmeet Singh Sandhawalia along with several members of the judiciary, senior officials and dignitaries.
Addressing a seminar on “Fundamental Rights and Duties” at Skriti Sadan in Mandi, the Chief Justice emphasized that the justice delivery system must function with the same service-oriented spirit as hospitals.
“Just as a patient arrives at a hospital seeking treatment for an illness, a person approaching the courts also comes with a grievance and expects healing through justice,” he said, urging judges, lawyers and court staff to treat litigants with compassion and sensitivity.
Justice Surya Kant noted that courts should not merely be seen as institutions that pronounce verdicts but as places where people seek relief from their suffering and conflicts.
He stressed that strengthening public trust in the judiciary requires empathy, efficiency and dedication from everyone associated with the justice system.
Highlighting the importance of constitutional values, he said citizens must remain aware of their fundamental rights while also fulfilling their duties, as both are essential for a strong and vibrant democracy.
The proposed judicial complex is expected to provide modern facilities, improved infrastructure and better space for courts and judicial services, significantly enhancing access to justice for people in the region.
