SHIMLA: Himachal Pradesh High Court has given the green signal for the reopening of a high-end café in Shimla’s iconic Town Hall, the heritage building that serves as the seat of the Shimla Municipal Corporation.
This comes after the petitioner in the case withdrew their plea and the interim orders previously issued were vacated.
The Town Hall building, located in the heart of Shimla, had been under legal scrutiny since the matter first came to the court’s attention on the 19th.
Concerns were raised over the café’s allotment process, which some alleged was done without proper selection. However, the court reviewed the process and dismissed these allegations as baseless.
While earlier objections centered on the café potentially altering or renovating the heritage structure, the High Court has firmly stated that no such changes will be allowed.
The building’s heritage status remains intact, with strict restrictions imposed to ensure its preservation.
The café had previously been closed temporarily during the proceedings. Now, with the court’s approval, preparations are underway to resume operations on the ground floor of the Town Hall.
The Shimla Municipal Corporation has ensured that all necessary precautions have been taken to maintain the integrity and heritage value of the structure.
Residents and tourists alike can look forward to enjoying the café, which promises to bring the best offerings to the city while preserving its historical charm.
The reopening is being hailed as a positive step, balancing modern utility with heritage conservation, ensuring the Town Hall remains a pride of Shimla for years to come.
