Shimla, January 10, 2025: The Himachal Pradesh High Court has reinstated IPS officer Ilma Afroz as SP Baddi, delivering a sharp rebuke to the Sukhu government for its controversial decision to send her on forced leave.
Opposition leader Jai Ram Thakur hailed the verdict as a “win for justice” and accused the government of shielding mafias and punishing honest officers.
“This government stands exposed for misusing power to protect illegal activities in Baddi,” Thakur said.
“Ilma Afroz was targeted for doing her job, while mafias were allowed a free run. The Chief Minister is more focused on safeguarding his chair than the state’s law and order.”
Thakur slammed the government for creating a culture of fear among officers.
“From targeting SITs fighting drug rackets to harassing upright officers, this government has turned justice on its head. Thankfully, the judiciary has stepped in,” he said.
Citing media reports of illegal mining near the SP office in Baddi, Thakur alleged government complicity.
“The mafias thrive under official protection. Instead of cracking down on them, the government victimizes those upholding the law,” he charged.
The High Court’s decision has not only reinstated Afroz but also exposed what Thakur called the Sukhu government’s “blatant bias” in favor of criminal elements.
“The Chief Minister must answer why an IPS officer was harassed and forced out while mafias were shielded. This is a shameful misuse of power,” he added.
