Shimla, July 25: Hon’ble Mr. Justice Vivek Singh Thakur of the Himachal Pradesh High Court has been appointed as the new Executive Chairman of the Himachal Pradesh State Legal Services Authority (HPSLSA).
The nomination was made by the Governor of Himachal Pradesh in consultation with the Chief Justice, as per a notification issued by the State Law Department on July 24.
Justice Thakur hails from Lanjata village in Ghumarwin, Bilaspur, and comes from a family of educationists.
His father, Thakur Narayan Singh Swami, was a former MLA, while his mother served as a principal.
An alumnus of HPU and Kurukshetra University, Justice Thakur has an academic background in B.Sc., LL.B. (first rank), LL.M., and BJMC.
He has actively participated in NCC, NSS, debates, and performing arts, and was a known voice on All India Radio.
Before his elevation to the bench in April 2016, he served as Assistant Advocate General (1998–2003), Additional Advocate General (2008–2013), and Senior Panel Counsel for the Union of India.
He has practised in various branches of law and held several key posts in the High Court committees and the HP Judicial Academy.
Justice Thakur is known for his active involvement in legal reforms, national seminars, and social causes like blood donation and awareness drives.
