Over 65,000 Cases Settled in One Day as National Lok Adalat Awards ₹55.68 Crore Across Himachal

SHIMLA: In a massive disposal drive, the National Lok Adalat held across Himachal Pradesh on Friday settled 65,793 cases in a single day, bringing relief to thousands of litigants and reducing the burden on courts across the state.

According to the Himachal Pradesh State Legal Services Authority, a total of 1,10,260 pre-litigation and pending cases were taken up before 140 benches constituted across the state during the National Lok Adalat held on May 9.

An amount of nearly ₹55.68 crore was settled and awarded to claimants during the proceedings.

The Lok Adalat was organised under the patronage of Justice Gurmeet Singh Sandhawalia and the guidance of Justice Vivek Singh Thakur.

To make the process easier for litigants, online payment facilities through ePay (eCourts Digital Payment) were also provided, particularly for compounding fees related to motor vehicle challans in traffic magistrate courts.

The authority said extensive awareness campaigns were carried out across the state through SMS alerts, jingles, IEC material, NGOs, Panchayati Raj institutions, para legal volunteers and newspapers to encourage people to take advantage of the Lok Adalat system.

Member Secretary Ranjeet Singh Thakur thanked the print and electronic media for helping spread awareness and making the Lok Adalat a success.
