Shimla’s Dinesh Bhatt Appointed Delhi High Court Judge
SHIMLA: In an achievement for Shimla, Justice Dinesh Bhatt, a resident of the city and a senior judicial officer of the Delhi Higher Judicial Service, has been appointed an Additional Judge of the Delhi High Court by the President of India.
Justice Bhatt, 57, took oath as an Additional Judge of the Delhi High Court on Tuesday. He was serving as Principal District and Sessions Judge in Delhi before his elevation.
Born in Shimla in 1969, Justice Bhatt completed his schooling at St Edward’s School and pursued his BSc from Sanjauli College. He obtained his LLB degree from Himachal Pradesh University in 1993 and began his legal career by practising at the Himachal Pradesh High Court.
His move to the Delhi judiciary came in 2008 when he was selected as an Additional District and Sessions Judge in the Delhi Higher Judicial Service. He secured the top position in the selection examination.
During more than 16 years in the Delhi judiciary, Justice Bhatt handled several important judicial assignments, including serving as District and Sessions Judge and Principal District and Sessions Judge.
His association with Shimla has also extended beyond his legal career. During his years of study and legal practice in the city, he was involved in social work, including helping persons with disabilities, destitute women, elderly people and poor patients.
He also participated in tree plantation activities and has been a regular blood donor.
His elevation to the Delhi High Court has brought recognition to Shimla’s legal and academic community and is being seen as a significant achievement for the city.
