UDFA Pushes for Justice in Kolkata Doctor's Murder Case
NEW DELHI: IN a move, the United Doctors Front Association (UDFA) has intervened in the Supreme Court regarding the shocking rape and murder of a trainee doctor at R.G. Kar Medical College, Kolkata.
Led by Dr. Lakshya Mittal, UDFA has filed an application demanding stronger protections for healthcare workers.
What's at Stake:
Legal Protections: UDFA urges the swift passage of the 2019 bill to shield healthcare workers from violence. "Doctors need legal safeguards, now more than ever," says Dr. Mittal.
Enhanced Security: The association highlights the glaring security lapses in government hospitals, calling for immediate upgrades like CCTV, Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs), and stricter access controls.
- Immediate Action: UDFA's key demands include forming a Central Protection Act (CPA) Committee, rolling out national safety protocols, and enacting severe penalties for violence against medical staff.
Demand for Accountability: UDFA insists on holding those responsible for the Kolkata incident accountable while addressing the systemic flaws that endanger healthcare workers.
"Our focus isn't just on justice for this case—it's on securing a safer future for every doctor in the country," Dr. Mittal asserts.
With the Supreme Court already seized of the matter, UDFA’s intervention sharpens the focus on nationwide reforms to protect healthcare professionals.
