KEYLONG/SHIMLA: Tourists and locals travelling on the Manali-Serchu-Leh National Highway, on the Grambhu-Kaza Spiti road and on the Tandi-Udaipur-Killar-Sansari Nalla state highway have been advised to be vigilant in view of recent floods and landslides at few places in Lahaul-Spiti district.
Deputy Commissioner of Lahaul-Spiti Sumeet Khimta said all the restrictions imposed on the movement of traffic have been lifted and the tourists can travel on Manali-Serchu-Leh, Gramphu-Kaza and Tandi-Killar roads.
But the tourists including locals are advised to be vigilant in view of the recent floods. They should take all precautions and should avoid venturing near the riversides, streams or landslide zones while traveling.
These roads have been opened for traffic. The roads were blocked by a series of landslides and flash floods triggered by rains and the melting of upstream glaciers at few points at Jahalma, Karpat, Jobrang, Chatru, Chotta Dhara in Lahaul-Spiti district since August 10.
District administration of Lahaul-Spiti, PWD and GREF teamed up and sped up the restoration work in the flood-hit valley on a war footing.
The Jobrang bridge on the link road, which were submerged in the surging Chandra-Bhaga river on August 16, remained unrestored as its approach has been washed away by the river.
The road blockades at two points have been cleared and widening work on the slide zone is being carried out to make way for smooth movement of traffic.
As per information received from BRO 94RCC Udaipur, Dharer Nullah which was blocked due to increasing water level, is now open for traffic.
Jahalma Nullah which was blocked due to flash flood, is now open for traffic.
The SDM Udaipur, along with PWD and IPH engineers are on the spot to monitor the restoration work at Jahalma, Karpat and other places. The water supply disrupted by the flash flood is being restored while bridge work will follow, Khimta informed.
