HImachal Pradesh Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar on Tuesday reviewed security arrangements of the state police along the 240 kilometre long Indo-China border that falls in Himachal Pradesh underscoring the need for empowering the border areas by way of infrastructure development.
He said there was a need to economically empower 48 border villages of Kinnaur and Lahaul-Spiti by developing infrastructure and creating economic activities there. The number of police stations and police posts should be increased in this area, he added .
The senior Police officers made a powerpoint presentation in this regard before the Governor in the presence of Director General of Police Sanjay Kundu at Raj Bhavan and apprised him of the present situation in the area.
Governor appreciated the efforts of the state Police saying that the present situation, the border of Himachal adjoining China was very sensitive and hence a strategically important area could not be ignored.
He appreciated the State Police for sending a team of State Police officers to the border villages to take stock of the situation and make other activities effective in this area.
Director General of Police apprised him of the security arrangements in the border areas.
Priyatu Mandal secretary to the governor was also present on the occasion.
