As many as 100 new coeducational Sainik schools will be set up in the country within the two years time as a part celebration of Raksh Parv of Ministry of Defence.
Himalayan states including Himachal, Uttarakhand, Leh-Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir and Northeastern states have sought at least two schools each saying that the sainik schools would give quality education to children mainly the girls that would go a long in empowerment of the rural communities in the remote and tribal areas of the region.
Not only this, the passouts would be eligible and qualified enough to enter in the armed border security forces. The children in the mountain are inherently tough and can be an asset to the forces deployed in the high tough terrains, said Lt BM Dogra (retd).
According to the sources, the ministry has sought expression of interest from the state governments and UTs for the setting up of the schools. “We have so far received 89 applications so far”, the spokesperson said.
The government has sought to set up at least one sainik school in each state and union territory within a time frame of two years. These schools will be set up in partenrship wiht the private education institutes, NGO and the state government.
As per the proposal, the centre would give 50 per cent of fee support up to the maximum limit of Rs 40,000. 50 per cent of seats would be filled up on merit. All schools will have admit girl students, said the spokesperson.
