Indore city is adjudged as India’s cleanest city fifth time in a row. Surat and Vijayavada are second and third. Chandigarh at 16 rank is only the city in the region that figures in the first 20 cleanest cities in the Swachh Survekshan survey 2021.
The results declared by the Union Urban development minister Hardeep Puri. The winners got awards from the President of India today in New Delhi.
There is no magic wand with which the residents of Indore secured the cleanest city tag for the fifth time in the row. As per the survey, there is no city in the Himalayan states that figure in the top 20 cities in the Surevkshan ranking of the ministry this year.
Chandigarh, Lucknow and Gaziabad are only three cities in North India which are ranked in the first 20 rankings this year.
As many as 4320 cities participated in the Survekshan 2021. 342 cities are getting star ratings- nine are 5-star, 166 three star, 167 one star.
This time five crore citizen response was received this year for the survekshan survey-21 as compared with 1.87 crore received last year.
