Supreme Court of India on Wednesday constituted a five member committee to probe into the security lapse in Prime Minister Narender Modi’s visit to Ferozepur in Punjab on January 5, 2022.

As per order of the Supreme Court, the committee will probe into the causes of the security breach, threat of security and persons responsible for it and the committee would recommend measures for preventing such lapses in VVIP security in future.
The Apex courts had earlier stayed the proceedings of the inquiries committees which were set up by the Center and the state government. Supreme Court had also directed the Registrar General Punjab and Haryana High Court to submit all records and documents seized by him to the probe panel.
President of India Dr Ram Nath Govind had expressed his concerns about the security lapse in Prime Minister Narender Modi’s convoy in Ferozepur in Punjab on January 5. The heads are set to start rolling as the breach of security of Prime Minister of India is unacceptable and the accountability will be fixed, asserted Home Ministry.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had met President of India in Rashtrapati Bhawan on January 6. The latter had received from him the first-hand account of the security breach in his convoy at Hussainewala flyover in Ferozepur.
The security experts and political analysts agreed that any lapse or breach in Prime Minister of India's security at any stage is "unacceptable and the head must start rolling in connection with the Ferozepur visit of Prime Minister on January 5" as it can embolden the terroristic elements in the country.
India’s highest executive institution of Prime Minister and the government of India belong to people of India, not to any particular political party or single individual in power, said the netizens. Any security lapse is unacceptable and those responsible for this breach must be brought to justice, they asserted.
Home Ministry asserted that such dereliction of security procedure in Prime Minister’s visit is totally unacceptable and accountability should be fixed. Ministry had sought a detailed report from Punjab government on January’s 5 security breach in Prime Minister’s convoy in Punjab.
As a matter of fact, Prime Minister’s convoy got stuck on the flyover for 15-20 minutes after the protesters, including trucks and other vehicles appeared on the route of Prime Minister while he was on his way to Ferozepur to address the public meeting and launching of development projects worth Rs 42,750 crore in Punjab yesterday.
Prime Minister had to take the U-turn from the flyover after the security breach, cancelled his Ferozepur programme, which was his first in Punjab after he cancelled the three controversial farm laws and flew back to Delhi from Bhatinda airport.
There was no response from the CM Punjab to SOS from PM when he waited for 20-30 minutes at Bhatinda airport, charged the BJP national president Jagat Prakash Nadda.
Home minister Amit Shah had charged that Congress- made happening in “Punjab is a trailer on how Congress thinks and functions”. “Repeated rejections by the people have taken them to the path of insanity. Top most echelons in Congress must give apology to the people of India for what they have done”, Shah had stated.
Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi had claimed that there was no security breach as the PM"s programme was changed suddenly due to the bad weather that day. He had to reach by helicopter to Ferozepur, he had claimed.
