Big Tragedy Hit Paonta Sahib Family

Shimla/Paonta Sahib:
In just a matter of minutes, joy turned into unbearable grief for a family from Gwali village in Sirmaur. What began as a simple stop for a holy dip at Yamunaghat ended in tragedy, as three young men, including two brothers, were swallowed by the strong currents of the Yamuna on Tuesday.

According to villagers, Amit (23), who had joined the group returning from Haridwar with the palanquin of the village deity, suddenly slipped into the swirling waters.

Seeing him struggle, brothers Kamlesh (22) and Rajneesh (20) — both known in the village for their camaraderie and courage — immediately jumped in to save him.

But instead of pulling Amit out, the river pulled all three under.

“Within moments, they disappeared before our eyes. We kept shouting, villagers jumped in, but the Yamuna was merciless,” said a villager, his voice breaking.

For nearly 15 minutes, the trio fought the waves before being swept away by a vortex near the barrage scheme.

Panic spread along the ghat as family members and fellow villagers tried frantically to trace them.

Local divers later joined the desperate search, scouring a two-km stretch of the river up to the new Yamuna bridge. Yet, till late evening, there was no sign of the youths.

Back in Gwali, the news hit the families like a storm. The parents of Kamlesh and Rajneesh, who had bid their sons farewell in the morning with blessings for a safe journey, were inconsolable.

“Both my sons jumped in without thinking twice… and both never came back,” their father sobbed, surrounded by grieving neighbours.

DSP Manvendra Thakur confirmed that the search is still underway. But for the families, each passing hour deepens the fear that they may only get their children back lifeless.

What was supposed to be a spiritual journey to the Ganges has now left behind silence, shock, and a family torn apart in Gwali — where the cries of grieving parents echo louder than the bells of the village temple.
