Himachal Farmers, Apple Growers Join Nationwide Protest; Submit Demands to President
Shimla, 26 November 2025: In a show of solidarity with a nationwide farmers’ and laborers’ protest, the Himachal Kisan Sabha and Himachal Apple Growers Association, along with other worker organizations, staged block-level demonstrations across the state’s apple-growing regions today.
The rally in Rohru saw farmers, laborers, and activists march from Ramleela Ground to the Sub-Divisional Officer’s office, raising slogans and submitting a memorandum of demands to be forwarded to the President of India.
Local leaders, including Sanjay Chauhan, highlighted concerns over eviction processes carried out by Revenue and Forest Departments despite Supreme Court orders protecting land rights.
The memorandum outlined 16 key demands: guaranteed MSP for all crops at C2 + 50%, repeal of labor codes and contract labor, minimum ₹26,000 wage with ₹10,000 pension, loan waivers for farmers, free electricity for farms and 300 units for households, crop and livestock insurance for all, protection against forced land acquisition, strict social justice measures, control on inflation, and rejection of secret or harmful trade agreements like India-UK CETA.
Protesters also demanded universal pensions, strong public services, protection for women and children, fast-track justice, and safeguarding secularism and minority rights.
The demonstration marked the fifth anniversary of the historic farmers’ movement, reflecting the growing unrest over economic insecurity, land rights, and workers’ welfare in Himachal Pradesh.
