Theog School Students Step into Nature to Learn About Climate and Wildlife

SHIMLA: As part of the ongoing 75th Wildlife Week Celebrations, an environmental awareness programme was organized for students from Government High Schools in Majhar, Bathlawag, Sainj, and Bagain, Theog, at the Western Himalayan Temperate Arboretum, Shimla, on 5th October 2026.

The students participate in the Climate-Smart Schools initiative, an environmental education programme in Theog led by the Keystone Foundation in partnership with the Royal Enfield Social Mission (Eicher Group Foundation).

The programme, themed "A Step into Nature: Exploring Global Warming and Wildlife," was steered by Dr. Vaneet Jishtu, Subject Matter Specialist with the Wildlife Wing of the HP Forest Department.

Drawing upon his field experiences, he interacted with the students on climate change, its impacts on native flora and fauna, and practical ways to protect the environment.

The students later explored the arboretum with Mrs. Kajal, Forester, who highlighted the ecological importance of trees and the need to plant, conserve, and care for native vegetation.

The programme encouraged the young participants to understand nature not merely as a resource, but as a living heritage that needs their care and stewardship.
