Shimla: In a step towards making Himachal Pradesh tuberculosis (TB)-free, Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu underwent a TB screening using a portable X-ray machine at an event under the ‘Ni-Kshay Abhiyan’ campaign today.
The CM, serving as the Chief Guest, also flagged off a mobile van dedicated to the 100-day TB eradication initiative.
Speaking at the event, the Chief Minister termed the campaign a game-changer for timely TB detection, effective treatment, and raising awareness, particularly among vulnerable and marginalized communities. The initiative will run across all districts of the state.
“We are confident that Himachal Pradesh will soon be TB-free. An additional ₹2 crore has been allocated under the Chief Minister’s TB Eradication Scheme to bolster efforts alongside central government funding,” Sukhu said.
He highlighted that 13% of the state's population is aged over 60, making early diagnosis crucial for this group, and urged citizens to participate actively in the campaign.
The Chief Minister revealed plans to integrate health education into school curriculums to foster awareness about diseases and promote healthy lifestyles from an early age.
He stressed the government's commitment to upgrading emergency departments in hospitals and equipping medical colleges with state-of-the-art technology.
“To enhance healthcare services, the government is increasing allowances for super-specialist doctors from ₹60,000 to ₹1.75 lakh and for specialists to ₹1 lakh,” he added.
Sukhu also appealed to the Union Government for a "Green Bonus," acknowledging the state's efforts to conserve its forests, which he called the "lungs of North India."
Additionally, he mentioned plans to revise the industrial policy to attract green industries for a sustainable future.
During the event, the Chief Minister administered a pledge for a TB-free India and distributed Ni-Kshay nutrition kits to TB patients. Institutions contributing to the campaign were also honored.
Health and Family Welfare Minister Col. (Dr.) Dhani Ram Shandil emphasized vigilance and timely check-ups to combat TB.
“Himachal Pradesh has one of the highest TB screening rates in the country, and the state government provides monthly financial assistance to meet patients' nutritional needs,” he said.
Mission Director NHM Priyanka Verma welcomed the dignitaries, while Health Secretary M. Sudha Devi detailed the campaign’s roadmap.
