Drug Peddlers Caught, But Will the Real Kingpins Ever Be Brought Down to justice?

SHIMLA: The war against drugs in Himachal Pradesh is gaining momentum.

The latest development involves the arrest of two female drug traffickers from Punjab—Jarmanpreet Kaur and Kulwant Kaur—who were caught at Delhi Airport by the Kangra Police while attempting to flee to Canada.

These women were directly linked to the drug trade in Himachal. Last month, three youths were arrested for purchasing chitta (heroin) worth ₹4.5 lakh from them, with the transaction done via UPI.

But the bigger question remains: Will the police go after the masterminds behind this entire network?

The Himachal government has vowed to dismantle drug empires and seize their illicit wealth, but will only small-time peddlers be caught while the real kingpins continue to operate freely?

Will similar crackdowns take place in Punjab, where the major drug suppliers operate?

Why Do the Big Fish Always Escape?

People are questioning how such a vast drug network continues to flourish.

If drug deals are happening so openly, why aren’t actions taken at the right time?

How do traffickers always seem to anticipate police action and attempt to flee?

If only low-level peddlers are being caught while the masterminds remain untouched, then it raises serious concerns about potential loopholes in the system.

A local resident summed up public sentiment: "It’s difficult to understand how this network grows so strong. Who is responsible for this? Why aren’t actions taken before the damage is done?"

Should Drug Trafficking Be Considered Treason?

Many in Himachal are now demanding that all those involved in the drug trade—whether suppliers, dealers, or their enablers—should be charged under laws related to treason.

Their argument is that chitta is not just a narcotic but a social poison that is destroying the youth.

If terrorism is a threat to the nation, so is drug trafficking, which cripples entire generations.

Reward Informants to Root Out Drugs

The Himachal Police have sent a strong message: Drug traffickers will no longer be spared.

But the public believes that to truly eliminate chitta from every village, authorities should offer monetary rewards to informants.

This will encourage citizens to actively assist in identifying and eliminating drug dealers in their localities.

Parents Must Keep a Close Watch

This case is a wake-up call for parents, especially those whose children move away from home for studies or work.

Drug smugglers specifically target youth who live away from their families and have access to money.

Families must stay connected, monitor their children's activities, and educate them about the dangers of drug abuse before it’s too late.

The Real Test for the Police Begins Now

The Kangra Police acted swiftly in this case, but the real challenge lies ahead.

Will they stop at arresting small-time traffickers, or will they dismantle the supply chain in Punjab?

Will the Himachal government deliver on its promise to seize drug mafia assets? Or will this case, like many others, fade into obscurity?

Himachal is now awake. The people won’t settle for small arrests anymore. They want to see the real masterminds behind bars.
