Chopal: Newly opened Government College, Kupvi in the Chopal region of Himachal Pradesh has become a victim of government apathy. Only seven out of 70 students passing the BA first-year examination has raised concerns over the quality of education and administrative negligence.

In a scathing critique of the government's lack of attention to education standards in the state, BJP state in-charge Avinash Rai Khanna lamented the situation, stating that a letter has been sent to both the Governor and the Chief Minister regarding the matter.

Government College, Kupvi, located in Shimla district, faced a dismal 10 percent pass rate in the BA first-year examination.

This outcome comes as no surprise given that the college operated without a single teacher for the entire previous academic year, leaving all 70 students to fend for themselves.

A mere seven students managed to pass the exams, while nine others face compartment exams, and over 50 students have failed.

The Parent-Teacher Association's failure to appoint teachers for the entire session, except for two private teachers for a brief period, has been a significant contributing factor to this educational crisis.

The blame for the poor results falls squarely on the authorities, as they were unable to appoint a single regular teacher throughout the year, squandering a precious year for many students.

Khanna questioned who should be held responsible for this loss and called on the government to provide answers. He expressed concern that numerous students had left the college due to the harrowing experiences of the previous year.

This is corroborated by the enrollment figures, as the number of students has dwindled significantly, with only 63 students currently enrolled in BA first-year and second-year combined, compared to the initial 70 in the previous year.

The Principal of Government College, Nerva, Harbans Lal Sharma, currently holds the additional charge of Principal at Government College, Kupvi, which has hindered the institution's ability to receive the full attention it requires. Although three regular teachers were appointed following this distressing episode, a total of eight teachers are still needed.

Local residents are demanding swift action to fill these vacancies and to ensure that such critical positions are never left vacant in the future.

The plight of Kupvi Government College serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for educational reform and increased attention to ensure that students in Himachal Pradesh receive a quality education without delay.
