Shimla: In an impressive display of sports prowess, girl students from the government school Chopal block, Shimla, have emerged victorious in the under-14 school sports tournament(girls) held at Sarahan in Rampur.
The talented youngsters clinched four titles, leaving their mark on the competitive arena.
They won volleyball, chess and overall trophy and ended second in kho kho which was won by Deha.
Mashobra block won two titles. Nerwa won kabaddi and Rohru came second.
The closing ceremony of this district-level tournament took place at Government Senior Secondary School Sarahan in Rampur sub-division. Distinguished guests included Shri Vikramaditya Singh, the Public Works Minister and Youth Services and Sports Minister, who graced the event as the chief guest.
During his address, Vikramaditya Singh highlighted the commitment of the state government to nurture both the intellectual and physical development of students. He urged parents to focus on the holistic growth of their children and to encourage them to pursue sports in accordance with their interests.
The minister emphasized that sports have been a platform for students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds to showcase their talents on the international stage, bringing honor to the nation.
As part of the government's dedication to fostering positive outlets for youth, Shri Vikramaditya Singh announced plans to establish a basketball court and gymnasium in Sarahan.
These facilities aim to redirect the younger generation toward sports, helping them steer clear of the menace of drug abuse.
In recognition of their exceptional performance, the winning players were presented with awards, and the spirit of sportsmanship was celebrated as paramount.
Notable figures attending the event included Chandraprabha Negi, the President of District Council Shimla, Ashish Kayath, President of Panchayat Samiti, Principal Vinod Sharma, Gopi Ram Mehta, Block Sports Incharge, and officials and workers from the Congress Party.
