SHIMLA/JAIPUR: The United Doctors Front (UDF) has set an inspiring example for other states by successfully concluding its ambitious “1000 Hours – 10,000 Organ Donation Pledges” campaign across Rajasthan during July–August 2026.
The campaign combined public awareness programmes, digital organ donation pledges, rallies, seminars, poster competitions, community outreach and other participatory initiatives to encourage citizens to come forward for organ donation.
The UDF team will be honoured by the State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (SOTTO), Rajasthan, at the state-level Indian Organ Donation Day समारोह in Jaipur on August 5, 2026, in recognition of its contribution to the campaign.
The organisation was also invited by the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (NOTTO), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, to participate as a representative at the 16th Indian Organ Donation Day समारोह held on August 3 at Dr Ambedkar International Centre in New Delhi.
The Rajasthan initiative assumes wider significance at a time when medical education and research institutions across India continue to face shortages of donated cadavers. Regular availability of cadavers is essential for anatomy teaching, surgical training and medical research, making awareness about cadaver donation after death an important public-health and medical-education issue.
While organ donation can save or transform multiple lives through transplantation, cadaver donation also makes a lasting contribution to the training of future doctors and advancement of medical science. The Rajasthan campaign demonstrates how governments, medical organisations, educational institutions, civil society and citizens can work together to build a culture of donation.
Other states need to emulate the Rajasthan model by launching sustained awareness campaigns rather than limiting organ and cadaver donation initiatives to annual observances. District administrations, medical colleges, universities, hospitals, government departments and voluntary organisations can play a critical role in educating families about the importance and procedures of donation.
In Himachal Pradesh, the Himalayan Forest Research Institute (HFRI), Shimla, has also taken an awareness-oriented approach by holding a programme on cadaver donation among its employees, helping create awareness about the importance of donating the human body for medical education and research. Such institutional initiatives can become the foundation for a broader public movement in the state.
The UDF has expressed gratitude to the Rajasthan Government, SOTTO Rajasthan, NOTTO, the State Appropriate Authority, district administrations and collectors, CMHOs, education and police departments, voluntary organisations, medical institutions, volunteers and all other stakeholders who contributed to the campaign.
The success of Rajasthan’s 10,000-pledge initiative sends a clear message: India needs a sustained national movement for both organ donation and cadaver donation, with every state developing its own structured awareness programme to bridge the gap between the demand for donated organs and cadavers and their availability.
