Shimla- The state government of Himachal Pradesh has decided to reinstate the annual assessment system for the 10th and 12th class board exams to make it similar to the neighbouring states. .
Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has approved this decision, which eliminates the existing term system, allowing students to appear for their exams only once a year.
With the term system, students had less time to revise their syllabus, and having two examinations in one academic session hindered their studies. Additionally, conducting exams and evaluating papers took a considerable amount of time.
One of the major advantages of the annual assessment system is the financial relief it provides to students.
Under the previous system, students had to bear the burden of paying double fees for appearing in exams twice. The reinstatement of the annual system will alleviate this financial strain.
Moreover, the decision takes into account the geographical diversity of Himachal Pradesh.
The state has different holiday and weather conditions in various regions, leading to variations in teaching days. By adopting the annual assessment system, Himachal Pradesh aligns itself with neighboring states like Punjab, Haryana, Jammu-Kashmir, Rajasthan, and Uttarakhand, as well as the CBSE Board, which already follow this approach.
