Kathau medical college, Jammu and Kashmir

Jammu, Sept 13 — Trouble is brewing at Government Medical College (GMC) Kathua, where the United Doctors Front Association (UDFA), J&K chapter, has fired off a formal complaint against the Head of Paediatrics Department, accusing him of persistent harassment of DNB trainees and students.

In a strongly worded representation dated September 12, UDFA’s National Joint Secretary, Dr. Mir Waseem, alleged that the atmosphere in the Paediatrics department has “devolved into one of apprehension and psychological distress” since the start of the DNB course.

Students, according to the complaint, have consistently reported “intimidation, coercion and unwarranted harassment” by the HoD.

The complaint warns that such conduct has not only shattered student morale but also “eroded the sanctity of the institution and undermined the very objectives of the DNB programme.”

The association stressed that the HoD’s role is meant to be one of mentorship and academic leadership, not victimisation.

“The position of Head of Department is being weaponised to perpetuate harassment,” the UDFA said, calling it a betrayal of students’ trust and the college’s ethos.

Dr. Mir urged the GMC Principal to personally intervene and launch an impartial probe, assuring confidentiality to victims and taking corrective measures to prevent recurrence.

The association has also cautioned that if the complaint is ignored, it will escalate the matter before the National Medical Commission and judicial bodies.

Despite the gravity of the charges, the college administration has not yet responded to the complaint, leaving students and the medical fraternity waiting for clarity.

The ball is now firmly in GMC Kautha’s court — whether it treats this as routine paperwork or takes decisive steps to restore faith in the system.
