Lions Club Shimla Organises Blood Donation Camp at Ridge to Meet Shortage in Hospitals
Shimla, November 12: In a compassionate effort to address the shortage of blood in hospitals, the Lions Club of Shimla today organised a voluntary blood donation camp at the Rain Shelter on the historic Ridge.
The camp, held in association with the team of doctors led by Dr. Ganga Sharma and the technical staff of DDU Hospital, saw an encouraging response from citizens and visitors alike, with 25 units of blood collected after proper medical screening of donors.
The event was inaugurated by Mayor Surinder Chauhan and Deputy Mayor Uma Kaushal, who lauded the Lions Club for its continued commitment to community service through initiatives like tree plantation drives, health check-up camps, and blood donation camps.
Speaking on the occasion, Lion Manmohan Verma, Zone Chairperson, said that the drive aimed to raise awareness about the importance of voluntary blood donation and the crucial role of donors in saving lives. “A secure blood supply is vital for meeting emergency medical needs, and such efforts help build a culture of regular donations in the community,” he added.
Lion Gopal Krishan Vaid, President of the Lions Club Shimla, said the club remains committed to serving society through humanitarian projects that promote health and well-being.
Blood donors were honoured with certificates, mementos, and refreshments as a token of appreciation for their noble gesture.
The camp was attended by several members of the Lions Club, including Project Chairperson Lion Davinder Mittal, Treasurer Lion Vikas Seth, Vice President Lion M.K. Sharma, Lion P.S. Panwar, Lion K.D. Chandel, Lion Sanjeev, Lion Anil, Lion Santosh, Lion Subhash, Lion Ashwani, Lion Jograj, and other members, alongside representatives from the DDU Hospital Blood Bank.
