SHIMLA: Himachal Pradesh National Law University, Shimla, has trashed reports that there was a Covid-19 student case in the university, which was opened for regular classes from April 1 for all batches.   

According to the  Law university spokesperson as per the orders/circulars of the Government/UGC and BCI, the university remained closed for  students,  starting with 3rd week of March, 2020 till 3rd Week of March, 2022.

During this period teaching and learning activities was carried on, without interruption, through online mode on Cisco-WebEx meeting platform, especially purchased for the purpose.

In view of the fresh Government orders and circulars of UGC, the University was open for physical classes, in phased manner, for different batches of students, starting with 21st March, 2022. 

By the first week of April, 2022 the University was opened for all batches of students. Students were mandatory required to attend physical classes and reside in hostel of the University.

The health and safety issues of students as well as employees are on the top most priority of the University. All employees and all students were mandatory required to get both (two) doses of COVID-19 vaccination for being entitled to join the University physically.

The University, as per the COVID-19 protocol, has been taking all necessary steps, such as regular sanitization of the hostels, automatic dispenser of the sanitizers and different places of the University, mandatory requirement of wearing mask for all, infrared thermal scanning for detecting fever of each person entering the University premises etc.

So far, there are no confirmed reported case of COVID-19 from the campus of the University or its hostels.  The reports published in News Papers, calming that a student has been reported COVID-19 positive, is absolutely incorrect.

The case of one student, who went home, and diagnose report positive in the State of Rajasthan at home. The other two of his hotel roommates are hale and hearty  and have  no symptoms of cold or COVID-19. The two are residing in the same room of the hostel and attending regular physical classes, he stated.

Students Demands 

There are a few students, who have been demanding that University should not physically be opened for students and all academic and examination work be carried out through online mode only, and have again given a representation raising concerned against COVID-19.

The University is committed to the safety and health measures of students and employees.

The University has written, as a precautionary measure, to the Government/the Chief Medical Officer, Shimla, requesting for mandatory RTPCR Test of all students and employees in the campus. The action on the part of Medical Department is awaited.
