UDFA President Dr Mittal

NEW DELHI/ SHIMLA: UDFA President Dr. Lakshya Mittal, re-elected for 2024-2025, has vowed to fight against the exploitation of doctors, calling out government policies that treat medical professionals like “bonded laborers” and pushing for reforms to ensure their rights, fair working conditions, and workplace safety.

“Are we medical professionals or bonded laborers?” he questioned, emphasizing how doctors are overburdened and deprived of basic rights despite their critical role in society.

Call for Reforms

Dr. Mittal outlined UDFA’s action plan, which prioritizes:
- Ending service bonds that restrict medical graduates’ freedom.
- Establishing fair working hours to combat doctor burnout.
- Advocating for workplace safety through a Central Protection Act for healthcare workers.
- Decriminalizing the medical profession**, shielding doctors from unjust legal actions.

He warned that the profession is under siege and stressed that improving doctors' working conditions is essential for the future of healthcare in India.

Unity in Action

Dr. Mittal made a rallying call for doctors to unite, stating, "Our strength lies in our unity. Together, we can fight for better working conditions, legal protections, and meaningful reforms that will transform the healthcare system.

Broader Initiatives

In addition to fighting for doctors' rights, UDFA is committed to the ‘Tobacco-Free India’ campaign and pushing for transparent and efficient NEET exams for medical admissions. Dr. Mittal emphasized that these initiatives aim to not only uplift the medical profession but also improve public health.

#Challenge to Governments

He directly challenged state governments, asking why medical professionals are sidelined in policy decisions.

"Doctors have the right to choose where they work and under what conditions," he stated, vowing to continue the fight until the dignity and rights of healthcare workers are restored.

"We will not rest until doctors in India are treated with respect," he declared.
