Governor to Flag Off Anti-Chitta Marathon on World Environment Day
Shimla, June 2: In a major awareness drive against drug abuse and environmental degradation, Himachal Pradesh Police will organize the "Anti-Chitta & Clean Environment Awareness Mini Marathon 2026" at The Ridge, Shimla, on June 5 to mark World Environment Day.
The marathon, being held in collaboration with the Department of Environment, Science, Technology and Climate Change and the Directorate of Census Operations, aims to turn the fight against "Chitta" into a mass movement involving youth, students, NGOs, Mahila Mandals, sports bodies and the general public.
The Governor of Himachal Pradesh will flag off the 10-km Mini Marathon at 6.30 am, while the Chief Minister will attend the prize distribution ceremony later in the day.
The event will carry the message "Say No to Chitta, Say Yes to Life", promoting fitness, a drug-free lifestyle and environmental responsibility.
Cash prizes of up to ₹51,000 will be awarded in the 10-km race, while winners of the 3-km Dream Run will receive prizes up to ₹21,000. Finisher medals and T-shirts will also be distributed.
The programme will include an anti-drug pledge, cultural performances, awareness activities and a short film on the Anti-Chitta Jan Andolan.
Himachal Pradesh Police has appealed to citizens to participate in large numbers and support the campaign for a healthy, clean and drug-free Himachal Pradesh.
