AIIMS Nursing Officer Pooja Thakur from Shimla Brings Laurels to Himachal for her study on nursing care intervention in cardiac surgery patients
New Delhi/Shimla: Puja Thakur, a nursing officer from AIIMS New Delhi, has developed a nursing care intervention that is delivering quality outcomes for patients undergoing cardiac surgery, earning her rare international recognition and accolades from the global medical fraternity.
Presenting her research at the 4th World Nursing and Healthcare Conference held in London on April 23–24, 2026, Puja’s study titled “Preoperative Nasal Decolonization and its Effect on Surgical Site Infection Among Adult Patients Undergoing Cardiac Surgery” drew significant attention for its practical, patient-centric approach.
Calling it a “rare honour” to represent India on a global platform, Puja Thakur said, “This research is focused on improving patient safety and surgical outcomes through simple, evidence-based nursing interventions. It is a proud moment for me to present India’s clinical strength before an international audience.”

Family members expressed immense pride over her achievement, calling it a moment of honour not just for the family but for the entire state.
