Army Chief Hails Legacy of Discipline and Patriotism
Chail, Oct 12: Chief of Army Staff, General Upendra Dwivedi, today visited the Rashtriya Military School (RMS) Chail to commemorate its historic centenary celebrations, marking a century of shaping young minds into leaders of character and courage in the serene hills near Shimla.
To mark the occasion, General Dwivedi inaugurated the majestic Centenary Gate—a symbol of the school’s rich heritage and enduring spirit—planted a sapling, and released both the Commemorative Special Cover and Centennial Chronicle, capturing the school’s journey through a hundred illustrious years.
Addressing the faculty and cadets, the Army Chief lauded the school’s “unwavering commitment to discipline, academic excellence and nation-building.” He said, “Rashtriya Military School Chail has stood as a beacon of duty, honour and patriotism.
For a hundred years, it has nurtured young cadets who went on to serve the nation with valour and integrity.”
General Dwivedi also interacted with distinguished alumni and veterans, many of whom have held senior ranks in the armed forces and contributed immensely to the nation’s defence and development. He commended their lifelong dedication and called them “living examples of the values instilled within these very walls.”
Founded in 1922 as King George’s Royal Indian Military School, RMS Chail was the first of its kind in India, established to provide education and military training to the sons of defence personnel. Over the decades, the school has evolved into one of the country’s most prestigious institutions, shaping officers who have served with distinction across all wings of the Indian Armed Forces.
Nestled in the pine-clad hills near Shimla, the century-old institution continues to blend tradition with modernity—producing cadets who are academically proficient, physically fit, and deeply rooted in values of nationalism and service.
The centenary celebrations witnessed an air of nostalgia and pride as alumni, faculty, and cadets came together to pay tribute to the school’s glorious journey.
