SHIMLA: Virender Sharma (IPS),  Superintendent of Police Solan district has been awarded the prestigious President’s Police Medal for the distinguished services 

Virender Sharma is among nine police officers from  Himalayan states and among 87 police officers from the country,  who have been awarded the President’s Police Medal for distinguished services in the country.

Dinesh Kumar Yadav, IG (Welfare and Administration) and inspector Praveen Kumar,  HPPTC, Droh, Kangra and Kishore Kumar, assistant police inspector, TTR, Shimla- stand among those over 648 police personnel,  who were awarded Police Medal for the Meritorious services in the country this year.

But there is none from Himachal Pradesh who received the police medal for gallantry this year. 

Virender Sharma has entered the police services as an inspector. He rose to the ranks of the IPS by dint of his hard work and devotion to the service. He figures among upright police officers of Himachal Pradesh.  

Sharma hails from a reputed Brahmin family of teachers and doctors from Deot village of Shantha pargana in Chopal tehsil in Shimla district.    

He has also served as SP (Vigilance) Mandi and hold many important security assignments related to the security of Prime Minister of India, Atal Bihari Bajpai, when he used to visit Himachal Pradesh.   

This time Sharma is the only police officer from Himachal Pradesh who was awarded the President’s Police Medal for distinguished services-Independence Day 2022.  

According to the Ministry, President of India has awarded President’s Police Medal for the distinguished services to 87 police officers from across the country.

Sharma is among ten police officers from the Himalayan states, who have been given the President’s Police Medal.

It is Girija Shankar Pandey, SP police telecom Nainital in Uttarakhand, Sonam Tenzing Bhutia IGP (Check Post) police headquarters, Sikkim.

From the northeast, Smt Imcharrenla, DIG, (NAP) Kohima in Nagaland is the first woman police officer who has been awarded the President’s police  medal.  

Then there  are C Lalchhuan Liana, DSP (SO) to CM Mizoram, Aribam Basant Sharma, deputy commandant, 6th IRB, Manipur, who have been awarded the President’s police medal, the  highest police award.  

Mohan Lal Kaith,  senior SP traffic rural Jammu, Janardhan Singh Slathia, DSP (Steno) Jammu are the two police officers who have been awarded the President’s police medal.   

Himangshu Das, assistant commissioner of Police Guwahati Assam, Chukhu Apa, IG police (law and order), Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh, are other two police officers who got the President’s police medal this year.
