Mandi: Indian Institute of Technology Mandi has been honored with the Green University Award during COP 28 in the UAE.
Green Mentors, a non-governmental organization with special consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council, presented this accolade in recognition of IIT Mandi's commitment to sustainable practices and holistic environmental initiatives.
Professor Laxmidhar Behera, the Director of IIT Mandi, expressed, “This achievement is the result of the unwavering efforts, commitment, and groundwork carried out by the faculty, staff, and student community through various activities.”
IIT Mandi's vision is to raise awareness among students and residents about environmental issues and nature conservation.
The institute actively conducts Environment Audits, Green Audits, and promotes vegetarian food options on campus to assess and reduce its environmental impact, aiming to achieve zero carbon emissions within the next decade.
The institution also aspires to create a model for an eco-conscious campus and explore revenue generation through carbon trading.
