Greyer With Grace: Shimla Lions Celebrate 70 Years of Service, Honour 12 Veterans
SHIMLA, OCT 17 — Growing older and greyer with grace after hanging up their professional boots, the veteran members of Lions Club Shimla came together on Saturday to reaffirm their life’s enduring mission: taking their foundational motto, "We Serve," to newer heights.
Marking 70 glorious years of Lionism in India, the club hosted a commemorative ceremony at the historic Shimla Club, celebrating decades of community welfare, philanthropy, and humanitarian service while honouring 12 senior Lions for their lifelong dedication.
The stalwarts feliciated with mementos, citations, and traditional mufflers included Anil Kumar Sood, Devender Kumar Mittal, D.K. Chauhan, J.S. Guleria, Kapil Dev Sood, K.D. Chandel, Naresh Lakhanpal, O.P. Mehta, P.S. Panwar, Subhash Aggarwal, Sushil Kumar Sood, and Sushil Sood.
Highlighting the milestone, Dr. Daleep Sharma reflected on the 70-year legacy of the Lionism movement across the country, noting that its true strength lies in compassion, brotherhood, and selfless civic action. He described the senior members as the living heritage of the club whose wisdom continues to guide the next generation of social workers.
Area Leader Er. Manmohan Verma commended the honoured veterans for their steadfast commitment, pointing out that their decades-long involvement provided the backbone for the movement's sustained growth in the region.
Adding warmth to the occasion, senior member Lion Subhash Aggarwal—who has served actively with the organisation since 1994—cut a celebratory anniversary cake amidst cheers from his peers.
The event was attended by Zone Chairperson Gopal Krishan Vaidya, Dr. O.P. Mehta, Dr. Rajesh Chanana, Ravi Chand Sood, Sanjeev Khanna, Vikram Verma, Vimal Kumar Sood, Vinod Paigahwal, and Prof. C.L. Sankhyan, among other prominent members.
The celebrations concluded with a fellowship banquet, where the seasoned changemakers pledged to continue their humanitarian mission, proving that while careers may conclude, the commitment to serve the community only deepens with age.
