SHIMLA- Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said the state has introduced a new policy to promote the use and production of green hydrogen to make Himachal a green state and to fight climate change.
Himachal Pradesh has lots of renewable energy resources like sunlight, water, and wind, which makes it a great place to generate green hydrogen.
The main goal of the policy is to attract investments in renewable energy projects, so there is a steady supply of clean electricity for making green hydrogen.
By taking advantage of its natural resources, Himachal Pradesh wants to create a good environment for producing green hydrogen.
“This will not only help fight climate change but also make the state a leader in sustainable development”.
To get started with green hydrogen production, the government has partnered with Oil India Limited (OIL) to make green hydrogen and green ammonia on a small scale.
They also want young entrepreneurs to invest in the state, and the new policy will have provisions to support them.
Chief Minister mentioned that a company is interested in building a plant in Himachal Pradesh to produce green hydrogen and convert it into e-ethanol, a fuel that can replace petrol.
This will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote clean transportation.
National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) is also working on a Green Hydrogen Mobility Project in the Chamba district.
They will set up a solar plant and equipment to produce and store hydrogen. Once everything is ready, they plan to introduce hydrogen-powered buses.
This new policy aims to make Himachal Pradesh a leader in clean energy.
By encouraging the production and use of green hydrogen, the state will make a significant contribution to fighting climate change.
It will also create opportunities for sustainable economic growth and make Himachal Pradesh a role model for clean and renewable energy initiatives.
