Sukhu urges Sitharaman to approve two industrial parks in Himachal

SHIMLA, AUGUST 17: Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Monday urged Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to accord early approval to two proposed industrial parks in Himachal Pradesh under the first phase of the Bharat Audyogik Vikas Yojna (BHAVYA), saying the projects could give a major push to industrialisation, employment and investment in the State.

Sukhu made the request while participating virtually from Shimla in the third meeting of the Apex Monitoring Authority of the National Industrial Corridor Development and Implementation Trust, chaired by Sitharaman in New Delhi.

The two investment-ready industrial parks proposed by Himachal include a 75-acre park at Beetan village in Una district, estimated to cost Rs 80 crore, and a 150-acre park at Majholi industrial area in Nalagarh, Solan, involving an estimated investment of Rs 154.39 crore.

The Chief Minister said both projects would be developed with modern plug-and-play infrastructure and were of immense importance for attracting investment, generating employment and promoting balanced regional economic development. He requested the Union Government to approve the proposals at the earliest so that work could begin without delay.

Sukhu also pressed for stronger rail connectivity to support Himachal’s industrial growth, particularly seeking extension of the Baddi-Nalagarh railway line.

He said improved rail infrastructure would lower logistics costs, provide industries better access to markets and enhance the competitiveness of manufacturing units.

The Chief Minister said strengthening transportation and logistics infrastructure was essential for creating a robust industrial ecosystem and encouraging greater private investment in the State.

The meeting was also attended by Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, Chief Ministers of various States and members of the Apex Monitoring Authority.
