Chaurasi Temple’s Holy Kufri Pond Water Unfit for Drinking, Warn Doctors
BHARMAUR: Pilgrims heading to the Manimahesh Yatra have been cautioned against drinking water from the sacred Kufri pond at the historic Chaurasi Temple complex in Bharmour, Chamba.
According to a water testing report by the Microbiology Department of the Pt Jawahar Lal Nehru Medical College, Chamba, the sample from the pond was found to have a high E. coli count, making it unfit for human consumption.
Doctors have warned that consuming the contaminated water could lead to diarrhoea, hepatitis, and other waterborne diseases.
It may be due to the seepage of sewage or other pollutants into the holy Kufri, but the temple management has yet to find an answer for the contamination.
Pilgrims often drink this water while on their way to Manimahesh, considering it sacred.
Bharmour BJP MLA Dr. Janak Raj has also appealed to pilgrims to avoid drinking the pond water this year.
“I request all devotees to take this advisory seriously. The water is contaminated and can cause serious illness. Please use only safe, treated water during the Yatra,” he said.
