National Water Mission Pushes Forward: Catch the Rain 2024 Focuses on Women’s Role in Water Conservation
Shimla/New Delhi: The Government of India has officially launched the Jal Shakti Abhiyan: Catch the Rain 2024 campaign, spotlighting the theme “Nari Shakti se Jal Shakti” (Water Power through Women’s Power).
This year’s drive emphasizes the critical role women play in water conservation and management.
During a review meeting on June 14, Additional Secretary and Mission Director of the National Water Mission discussed the progress of the District Water Bodies Atlas and its portal. This tool aims to pinpoint water bodies at risk across 151 districts, providing vital data for local conservation efforts.
The session saw active participation from the Central Water Commission (CWC), the National Water Informatics Centre (NWIC), and the World Bank.
Key representatives from these organizations shared updates and insights on how the atlas and portal will streamline the identification and protection of vulnerable water bodies, aligning with the broader goals of the Catch the Rain campaign.
The initiative, launched amid growing concerns about water scarcity, aims to harness the collective efforts of communities and leverage women's leadership in sustainable water management.
