HIMCOSTE Concludes Green Skill Training for 20 Youth in Nature Conservation and Ecotourism

SHIMLA, Oct 30 — A specialized training programme on ‘Nature Conservator-cum-Ecotourism Guide’ concluded on Friday at the CSLC–Science Museum in Shoghi, Shimla. Organised by the Himachal Pradesh Council for Science, Technology & Environment (HIMCOSTE), the initiative was held under the Green Skill Development Programme (GSDP) of the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC).

Running from September 9 to October 30, 2026, the programme trained 20 students from various parts of Himachal Pradesh. Participants received practical training in local biodiversity, wildlife protection, sustainable natural resource management, and environmentally responsible tourism practices. The curriculum is designed to equip youth with environment-related competencies, opening up green employment and self-employment avenues across the state. Given Himachal Pradesh's rich biodiversity and diverse landscapes, the initiative aims to bolster sustainable tourism while preserving natural heritage.

Dr. Suresh C. Attri, Joint Member Secretary-cum-Coordinator EIACP, presided over the valedictory ceremony as the Chief Guest. Addressing the trainees, Dr. Attri underscored the critical need for responsible natural resource management and urged the graduating batch to apply their practical skills in the field. He noted that trained nature conservators and ecotourism guides play a vital dual role in safeguarding the state's ecological wealth while generating sustainable livelihoods that support local communities.

The ceremony concluded with the distribution of certificates to the trainees. Senior officials, including Senior Technical Officer Umesh Pathania, Scientific Officer Dr. Shashi Dhar, Information Officer Dr. Ritvik Chauhan, and Jai Priya, were also present at the event to encourage the participants as they step into environmental and sustainable tourism roles across Himachal Pradesh.
