Governor Urges Action to Guard Himachal’s Ecology and Heritage at ‘Mukhautasur’ Staging
SHIMLA — Himachal Pradesh Governor Shri Kavinder Gupta has called for collective action to protect the state’s environment, indigenous dialects, and cultural traditions, cautioning against viewing the region merely as a tourist destination.
Speaking at the historic Gaiety Theatre during the staging of Mukhautasur—an adaptation of S.R. Harnot’s acclaimed novel Hidimb by Rohru-based Chandranahan Rangmanch—the Governor highlighted pressing challenges facing the Himalayan region, from ecological decay and rampant commercialization to the rising threat of drug abuse among youth.
Gupta commended director Krish Bharti and the cast for embedding local folk music and dialects into the performance, noting that regional identity must be actively preserved.
Echoing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call of "Vikas bhi, Virasat bhi" alongside green drives like Mission LiFE and ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’, he stressed that environmental stewardship and cultural pride must become everyday habits.
The Governor urged families to speak their native languages at home, celebrate local festivals, and ensure the younger generation remains deeply connected to Himachal’s heritage.
