Shimla, August 26: Dr. Satya Prakash Katyal is set to take charge as the new Chairperson of the State Food Commission and he paid a courtesy call on Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu at Shimla after his appointment.
The Chief Minister extended hearty congratulations and best wishes to Dr. Katyal on his appointment. Sukhu, recalling their bond since university days, said he was confident that Katyal would discharge his duties with sincerity and commitment.
Dr. Katyal is widely traveled and is expected to bring his rich experience to the largely forgotten and less-known Commission, giving it renewed visibility and purpose.
He has earlier served as a member of the Himachal Pradesh Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Commission and as an MNREGA Ombudsman, apart from enjoying goodwill in Congress circles.
His elevation is also being seen as another milestone for Chopal, his native region.
Locals say that under Sukhu’s leadership, a once-forgotten Chopal is getting recognition for its intellectual potential and leadership qualities.
