Tragedy in Mandi: Car Plunges Into Gorge, 5 Dead Including Infant
Mandi, June 1, 2025 — In a heartbreaking accident near Pandoh Dam in Mandi district, five people, including an 8-month-old baby, lost their lives after their car fell nearly 100 meters into a deep gorge.
The family was returning from a wedding when the tragedy struck near Kamand in Padhar area.
The Victims:
Duni Chand (groom’s elder brother)
Kanta Devi (his wife)
Kajal (their 8-month-old daughter)
Dealu Ram (relative)
Fulma Devi (his wife)
Three died on the spot; the mother and infant succumbed on the way to the hospital.
Swift Response, No Lives Saved
Police, SDRF, and locals launched a rescue operation, but it was too late. The car had rolled down the hill and stopped just above the Pandoh reservoir.
CM Reacts
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu called the incident “heart-wrenching” and directed the administration to support the families and ensure proper treatment for any injured. He offered prayers for the departed souls and strength to the bereaved.
