Himachal Schools, Colleges to Remain Closed Till September 7 Amid Heavy Rainfall

Shimla: In view of persistent heavy to very heavy rainfall across Himachal Pradesh, the state government has ordered closure of all government and private schools and colleges, including DIETs, till 7th September 2025.

The decision comes after widespread landslides, road blockages, tree felling, and damage to public infrastructure across the state.

Rakesh Kanwar, Secretary (Education), said, “Considering the safety of students and staff, all educational institutions will remain closed.

Teachers and administrative staff are also exempted from attending schools and colleges during this period.

However, heads of institutions must ensure teaching continues through online classes wherever possible.”

In a notification, he further emphasised that Principals, Headmasters, and Heads of Schools remain vigilant during this period to safeguard infrastructure and movable assets. In case of any damage to school property, steps should be taken for its protection and record-keeping.

The order has been circulated to all Deputy Commissioners, the Director of Higher Education, the Director of School Education, State Project Director, and other concerned authorities for compliance.
