SHIMLA — Himachal Pradesh joined the nation in observing Gandhi Jayanti on Thursday, with Governor Kavinder Gupta leading tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at the historic Ridge in Shimla.
Paying floral tributes to the Father of the Nation, Gupta said Gandhi’s ideals of truth, non-violence and Satyagraha continued to remain relevant and inspire generations. He also paid homage to freedom fighters and martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the country’s independence.
The Governor visited an exhibition on Gandhi’s life and journey organised by the Department of Information and Public Relations at the Ridge and distributed heaters provided by Maitri Sanstha among sanitation workers.
Later, Gupta visited the CTO to pay homage to former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on his birth anniversary. Recalling Shastri’s contribution to nation-building, he said his simplicity, integrity and probity had set high standards in public life.
Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur, former MP Pratibha Singh, Shimla Mayor Surender Chauhan, Himachal Pradesh Forest Corporation Vice Chairman Kehar Singh Khachi, Deputy Mayor Uma Kaushal and other prominent people were present.
