Shimla, 2 October – Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri were fondly remembered across Himachal Pradesh on their birth anniversaries today.
Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur joined the nation in paying glowing tributes to the two legendary leaders.
Governor Shukla said Gandhi Jayanti is about paying homage to the extraordinary life of beloved Bapu, whose ideals of courage, simplicity, service and compassion transformed human history and continue to guide India’s march towards Viksit Bharat.
Chief Minister Sukhu noted that Gandhi’s principles remain relevant in building a just and equitable society. He also recalled Shastri Ji’s humility and strength, adding that his call of “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan” continues to inspire the nation’s farmers and soldiers alike.
Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur said the sacrifices and ideals of Gandhi and Shastri will always remain a guiding light for generations in the task of nation-building.
The day was marked with prayers, cleanliness drives and cultural programmes across the state, reaffirming the commitment to Gandhian values of truth, non-violence and service to humanity.
